Sustainability
Building a greener future
With customers in more than 200 countries and territories, we are committed to developing the sustainable solutions the world needs. This means reducing the environmental impact of our products, services and operations today, and developing technologies to protect the quality of life in our communities tomorrow.
We are using our resources judiciously, relying more on renewable energy and innovating products and services that reduce energy consumption and are made with recycled and recyclable material.
Our environmental goals
Achieve 50%
reduction of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 2030
Reach carbon neutrality
for factory electricity by 2030
Achieve 100%
factory eligibility for zero waste- to-landfill certification by 2025
Complete ISO 14001
certification for all factories by 2025
Renewable Energy
A number of Otis facilities use solar fields to harness the sun’s energy and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels, including our principal U.S manufacturing facility in Florence, South Carolina, and our facility in Madrid, Spain, where 3,600 photovoltaic panels produce 60% of the factory’s electricity needs every year. Through these and other measures, our factories have reduced CO2 emissions by more than 30% since 2015, the equivalent of removing approximately 2,900 passenger vehicles from the road each year.

Sustainable Technology
Innovation has always defined us. We constantly strive to reduce the environmental impact of our products and services.
SkyMotion® machines for our SkyRise® elevators reduce energy loss up to 50% – and a 50% smaller footprint saves valuable space.
Our Gen2 Switch® elevator uses less electricity than most household appliances. If the power fails, the Gen2 Switch elevator continues to operate on battery power.
Our CompassPlus® dispatching system saves energy by moving some elevators to standby mode when traffic is light.
Our Gen2® elevator uses flexible polyurethane steel-reinforced belts in place of steel cables and features our ReGen® drive technology – innovations that reduce energy consumption by 75% under normal operation compared to conventional systems without regenerative technology.

Resource Efficiency
Reducing consumption and reusing water is achieving measurable results. Recently, we implemented separate rainwater collection and wastewater reuse systems at our factory in São Bernardo, Brazil. By using the reclaimed water for non-potable sources we reduced water use by over 2 million gallons annually. The site achieved ISO 14001 certification in June 2021. Read more here
